A United Nations committee adopted a resolution condemning North Korea’s systematic and widespread human rights abuses for the 21st consecutive year.

The UN Third Committee, cosponsored by South Korea and other member states, approved the resolution during a meeting at the UN headquarters in New York on Wednesday.

The resolution, adopted by consensus and without a vote, will be reviewed at the General Assembly plenary session next month.

It urges North Korea to allow international humanitarian workers to return and calls on UN agencies and member states to support nongovernmental organizations working on human rights in the regime.

The committee, which handles human rights issues, has adopted the North Korea human rights resolution annually since 2005.
