A wildfire that broke out Thursday in Inje County, Gangwon Province, burned for more than 14 hours, with firefighting helicopters deployed at daybreak.

The Korea Forest Service said Friday that it began gradually dispatching helicopters around 7:10 a.m., ultimately mobilizing a total of 30.

The fire was about 68 percent contained as of 7 a.m. and had impacted an estimated 346-thousand square meters.

No casualties have been reported, but 12 residents from eight nearby households were evacuated to a senior center as a precaution.

The blaze started around 5:30 p.m. Thursday on a hillside in Inje County.

Despite deploying more than 320 personnel and 60 pieces of equipment overnight, authorities said their efforts were hampered by rugged terrain.
