South Korea and Egypt signed an agreement on education and cultural exchange during a summit between their leaders.

National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac announced during a press briefing in Cairo on Thursday that a memorandum of understanding(MOU) had been secured following the meeting between President Lee Jae Myung and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The two leaders also agreed to establish a direct communication channel between the nations to facilitate collaboration.

Wi said el-Sisi plans to visit South Korea next year for the first time in a decade, with both sides hoping to follow up on matters discussed during the summit.

The leaders also discussed the bilateral Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, with Wi noting that research is complete and that the nations are preparing a joint declaration with only technical issues outstanding.

South Korea also agreed to assist with Gaza's reconstruction during the discussion.
