President Lee Jae Myung is set to travel to South Africa for the Group of 20(G20) summit on Friday after wrapping up a three-day official visit to Egypt.
While in Egypt, Lee held a summit with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and delivered a speech at Cairo University outlining his policy vision for the Middle East.
In a joint statement after the summit, Lee said the two nations had agreed to serve as "peace facilitators" on the Korean Peninsula and in the Middle East.
The leaders also agreed to expand defense industry cooperation and to pursue a bilateral Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
The two nations signed memorandums of understanding vowing to engage in cultural cooperation and technical education on the margins of the summit.
Lee concluded his visit with a meeting with Korean residents of Egypt on Thursday.
He is scheduled to arrive in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Friday night to attend the G20 summit and hold bilateral meetings with leaders from France, Germany and other member nations.
