A wildfire in Inje County, Gangwon Province, has been extinguished after about 17 hours.

Authorities put out the main blaze at around 10:30 a.m. Friday, and have dispatched nine helicopters to deal with the remaining embers.

No casualties were reported, but 12 area residents from eight households were temporarily evacuated to a community center.

The fire, which broke out on a hill in Inje County's Girin area around 5:23 p.m. Thursday, burned down approximately 360-thousand square meters of forest.

Forestry officials issued a Level One wildfire response alert at 10 p.m. after the affected zone exceeded 100-thousand square meters.

Once the fire is completely extinguished, authorities plan to investigate the exact cause.
