President Lee Jae Myung held separate meetings with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Chinese Premier Li Qiang on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in South Africa.

The presidential office said Sunday that Lee and Takaichi reaffirmed the importance of bilateral relations and the need for “future-oriented” cooperation.

The two leaders agreed to continue reciprocal visits, known as “shuttle diplomacy,” and to strengthen communication on economic and security issues.

In talks with the Chinese premier, Lee highlighted the full restoration of South Korea–China relations achieved during his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Gyeongju and called for cooperation that benefits both nations.

Li described Xi’s recent visit to South Korea as “successful” and expressed hope for additional cooperation with Seoul while developing bilateral ties from a long-term perspective.
