This winter's average temperatures will roughly match seasonal norms, but with significant local volatility.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration’s three-month outlook for December 2025 through February 2026, December and January temperatures will hover around the seasonal average, and February's will be warmer than usual.

The weather agency explained that high-pressure systems near the country may raise temperatures, but the weak La Niña, heavy snowfall in eastern Eurasia during autumn and low Arctic sea ice could expand continental high pressure and bring cold spells in December and January with significant fluctuations.

The agency expects near-average precipitation, with December drier and February wetter than usual.

The likelihood of a winter drought is considered low.

Sea surface temperatures across the country are likely to be above average this winter.
