South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have adopted a joint statement pledging to deepen their nations’ strategic partnership.
At a summit in Ankara on Monday ahead of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2027, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a partnership built on mutual respect, trust and long-standing friendship.
In their statement, Lee and Erdogan emphasized their commitment to peace, stability and prosperity across Asia, Europe and beyond. They also pledged to expand cooperation through multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, the Group of 20, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and MIKTA, a consultative body of five middle-power nations.
Both sides said dialogue, diplomacy and adherence to international law are essential for resolving disputes peacefully. They reiterated support for the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and lasting peace in the region.
In defense, South Korea and Turkiye agreed to pursue joint projects and deepen military ties. They also pledged broader cooperation in nuclear energy, recognizing its potential to strengthen their strategic partnership.
