South Korea and Turkiye signed a memorandum of understanding(MOU) to strengthen cooperation in the nuclear energy sector.

The agreement was signed on Monday by South Korea’s state-run Korea Electric Power Corporation and the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority after a summit between President Lee Jae Myung and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the presidential complex in Ankara.

The MOU establishes a joint working group to collaborate on reactor technology, financing, business models and project implementation.

The presidential office said the deal opens the door for Seoul to take part in Turkiye’s planned nuclear power plant project from the early stages, boosting its chances of securing the project.

The two nations also signed separate MOUs to expand cooperation in infrastructure and veterans affairs.
