Pres. Roh to Hold Summit Talks with Russian Pres. Vladimir Tuesday

President Roh Moo-hyun and Russian President Vladimir Putin are slated to adopt a joint statement Tuesday after discussing pending bilateral issues in summit talks in Moscow.

Roh and Putin are expected to seek cooperation for the active participation of Korean firms in Siberian energy development projects and share views on ways to further promote bilateral trade.

The two leaders will also exchange views on their goal of opening an era of peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia by strengthening their collaboration in a project to connect the Trans-Siberian and the Trans-Korean Railways.

Roh's visit - his first to Russia - is also likely to benefit South Korea's leading conglomerates, including Samsung, LG and Hyundai Motor, which are slated to clinch deals to invest more than two billion U.S. dollars in Russia's energy and automobile production sectors.

On North Korea's nuclear issue, Roh and Putin are expected to pledge close cooperation toward peacefully resolving the matter and to jointly work to establish peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula.
