The government is accelerating its push to center the economy on innovation in climate and energy, including solar power, power grids and small modular reactors.

The government made the announcement on Wednesday alongside the release of the third implementation plan for its "15 leading projects for ultra-innovation."

Seoul aims to commercialize a solar technology known as tandem modules by 2028 with a team comprising public, private and research entities, as well as support for research and development.

It also plans to establish a Korean-style next-generation power grid that integrates artificial intelligence to support the expansion of renewable energy.

The government also put forth a blueprint for diversifying homegrown small modular reactors by developing a light-water small modular reactor and a next-generation non-light-water unit in parallel, aiming to enter the global market by 2030.
