South Korea and the U.S. have agreed to swiftly launch a working-level consultative body to implement a joint fact sheet on summit agreements in the areas of nuclear energy, shipbuilding and others.

According to Seoul’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, the two sides made the agreement during a meeting between First Vice Foreign Minister Park Yoon-joo and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in Washington, D.C. on Monday.

During the talks, Park requested swift commencement of bilateral consultations to implement the fact-sheet commitments, including South Korea’s civilian uranium enrichment and reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel.

Landau agreed, saying both sides would communicate closely.

Park and Landau also pledged to work together to begin substantive talks on shipbuilding cooperation and Seoul’s plan to build a nuclear-powered submarine and broader shipbuilding cooperation.

The meeting marked the first high level bilateral consultation since the South Korea–U.S. summit in Gyeongju on October 29.
