A Seoul court has ruled against the detention of former People Power Party(PPP) floor leader Choo Kyung‑ho, who is accused of aiding former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s martial law declaration last year.

The Seoul Central District Court on Wednesday opted not to place People Power Party(PPP) floor leader Choo Kyung‑ho in pretrial detention, citing disputes over the facts and applicable legal principles.

The court also found that Choo was unlikely to flee or destroy evidence.

Choo stands accused of repeatedly changing the venue of a PPP meeting to block lawmakers from attending a parliamentary vote aimed at revoking the decree on December 3 last year, allegedly at Yoon’s request.

With little time left before its mandate expires, the special counsel is expected to indict Choo with no further interrogations or warrant requests.
