Inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will revisit the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute in Daejeon on Wednesday to continue investigating South Korea's past nuclear activities.
South Korean officials say the trip will be the five-member inspection team's third and last visit to the nation's major nuclear research center during their week-long stay in the country. The institute operates the facilities at which Seoul acknowledged earlier this month scientists had produced a minimal amount of enriched uranium in 2000 without the knowledge of the government.
The IAEA team is also expected to visit an atomic lab in Seoul later on Wednesday or Thursday to look into details surrounding Seoul's revelation that it produced more than 150 kilograms of uranium metal in the 1980s.
The inspectors are expected to supplement data gathered from their first round of inspections and to take a sample of the eight one-hundredths of a gram of plutonium extracted in 1982.
The IAEA inspectors flew into South Korea on Sunday for the second inspection in less than a month. They are scheduled to wrap up inspections on Saturday before leaving the country the following day.
