President Lee Jae Myung discussed defense and nuclear energy in his first phone call with Romanian President Nicusor Dan on Thursday.

Presidential spokesperson Kim Nam‑joon said in a written briefing that Lee and Dan had discussed strategic ties between the two nations, particularly in defense and nuclear power.

Lee stated that South Korean exports have aided Romania's defensive capabilities, including recent shipments of the Shingung surface‑to‑air missile system and K9 self‑propelled howitzers.

He expressed hope that South Korea would continue bolstering Romania’s military capacity.

Lee also asked Romania to support South Korea's participation in Bucharest's nuclear power projects.

In response, Dan praised South Korea’s defense industry for its technological strength and reliability and expressed hope for additional bilateral cooperation.
