South Korea will face off against Mexico, South Africa and a qualifier from the European playoffs in the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

South Korea was selected in Group A at a draw at the Kennedy Center in Washington on Friday local time, ahead of the 2026 World Cup set to be co-hosted by the U.S., Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.

The European qualifier spot in Group A is expected to be taken by either Denmark, North Macedonia, the Czech Republic or Ireland.

The upcoming World Cup tournament is expected to be the largest in history, with the number of competing teams expanding from 32 to 48.

The top two teams from each of the 12 groups will advance to the knockout stage, joined by the best eight third-place teams.

It will be South Korea’s eleventh consecutive World Cup entry and its 12th overall, after reaching the semifinals in 2002 and advancing to the Round of 16 in 2010 and 2022.
