South Korea and Chile have been selected to co‑host the next UN Ocean Conference(UNOC) in 2028.

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution Tuesday at UN headquarters in New York confirming the co‑hosts, with 169 votes in favor and two against.

The resolution stipulates that the conference, aimed at implementing and supporting UN Sustainable Development Goal 14, “Life Below Water,” will take place in South Korea in June 2028.

Chile is scheduled to hold a preparatory high‑level event in 2027 ahead of the main conference in South Korea.

UNOC, the largest and highest‑level international gathering on marine issues, convenes every three years and is customarily co‑hosted by one developed and one emerging nation. The third conference, held this year, was jointly hosted by France and Costa Rica.
