Rep. Ihn Yo-han of the main opposition People Power Party(PPP) has announced that he will resign from his parliamentary seat.

Ihn announced his resignation during a press conference at the National Assembly on Wednesday, about 18 months after he won a proportional seat in last year's April general elections.

Ihn, the first person to obtain South Korean citizenship through the nation's fast-track naturalization program for individuals with outstanding achievements, said that he wishes to conclude his legislative work and return to his original profession.

He added that he intends to contribute to national unity and the country’s development.

Lawyer Lee So-hee, a member of the party’s special committee for party organization enhancement, is next in line to succeed him.
