Kim Ji-mee, Veteran Actress, Dies at 85

Veteran actress Kim Ji-mee died Wednesday at the age of 85.

Film industry sources said Kim passed away while residing in the United States.

Born in 1940 in Daedeok County, South Chungcheong Province, Kim was compared to Elizabeth Taylor and had a career spanning approximately four decades.

She appeared in approximately 700 films and won best actress at the Panama International Film Festival and the Daejong Film Awards for her role in the 1974 movie “The Earth,” directed by Kim Soo-yong. She took the same Daejong award for the 1986 film “Gilsotteum,” directed by Im Kwon-taek.

In 2010, the Korean Filmmakers Welfare Foundation inducted Kim into its Hall of Fame.

In addition to acting, Kim engaged in various activities in the film industry, including establishing her own production company and serving on the Korean Film Council.
