Maggie Kang, the director of the smash-hit Netflix animated film “KPop Demon Hunters,” will receive the Okgwan Order of Cultural Merit. 

The culture ministry and the Korea Creative Content Agency will hold the 2025 Korea Content Awards in Seoul on Wednesday and present government certificates of merit and awards to recognize 24 content industry figures, including Kang, and 15 outstanding works. 

Kang is being recognized for contributing to the overseas expansion of K-culture and K-pop-related industries by directing “KPop Demon Hunters,” which achieved massive global popularity. 

The Order of Cultural Merit has five grades, with the Okgwan Order ranked fourth. 

The honor is awarded to a person who has provided outstanding service to the fields of culture and art, in the interest of promoting national culture and development.
