North Korea has convened a plenary meeting of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea in preparation for its ninth congress scheduled for early next year.

The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) reported Wednesday that the 13th plenary meeting of the party’s eighth central committee was convened on Tuesday with leader Kim Jong-un presiding.

According to the report, the meeting's agenda included a summary of party and state policies implemented in 2025, a report on the projects of the party’s Central Inspection Committee and preparations for the ninth congress.

The ruling party’s plenary meeting serves to deliberate and resolve pending issues inside and outside the party while congress is not in session.

The meeting’s participants are expected to select the agenda and personnel proposals to be presented to the ninth congress.
