Japanese maps that mark Dokdo as part of Korean territory will be displayed at a museum in Yeongwol County, Gangwon Province.

The Hoya Museum of Geography will showcase maps at the Yeongwol Culture and Arts Center from December 15 to 21.

The exhibit, in its second year, will feature maps displayed at the National Assembly last month to mark the 125th anniversary of Imperial Decree No. 41, which internationally proclaimed the islets as Korea's territory on October 25, 1900.

The exhibit will shed light on how Japan has historically perceived Dokdo and the nearby Ulleung Island as part of Korean territory and how Western maps have repeatedly mismarked the islets as part of Japan due to reliance on false Japanese documents.

The museum, which opened its doors in 2007, has focused on collecting maps that verify Dokdo's status as Korean territory and has conducted related research.
