A "Transparency Center" will be established under the Korea Media and Communications Commission(KMCC) to mitigate the harms caused by false or fabricated online information.

The commission disclosed the plan on Friday when briefing President Lee Jae Myung on tasks, including creating a safe environment for broadcasting, media and telecommunications.

The agency under the president charged with regulating broadcasting and communications services said that the envisioned center will also support private fact-checking.

In the briefing, the KMCC also unveiled plans to hold businesses accountable for online misinformation and disinformation and to prevent excessive online dependence among children and teens.

The commission will also seek to improve the transparency of algorithm-based services and to ensure users the right to choose such services.
