South Korea’s Ambassador to the United States Kang Kyung‑wha formally presented her credentials to U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday, a diplomatic protocol that officially recognizes her as Seoul’s top envoy.

Kang attended a credential ceremony at the White House, where she met Trump and handed over her letters of credence

Trump was reported to have conveyed warm regards to South Korean President Lee Jae Myung during the meeting.

The ceremony is the formal process by which a newly appointed envoy delivers credentials from the sending country’s head of state to the host nation’s leader, enabling the ambassador to begin full diplomatic duties.

Kang, who assumed her post on October 4, had already engaged in official activities after submitting written credentials, including participation in the South Korea–U.S. summit held in Seoul in October.

At the ceremony, new ambassadors from 14 countries, including South Korea, presented their credentials.
