Former President Yoon Suk Yeol took the stand for the first time in the trials of senior commanders who are accused of aiding the December 3 martial law declaration.

A prison vehicle carrying Yoon arrived at the military court in Seoul at around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Beginning at 10 a.m., Yoon testified in the trials of former Army Special Warfare Command chief Kwak Jong-keun, former Defense Counterintelligence Command chief Yeo In-hyung, former Capital Defense Command chief Lee Jin-woo, and former Defense Intelligence Command chief Moon Sang-ho, all of whom stand accused of playing key roles in an "insurrection."

The military court had initially planned to question Yoon as a witness on November 25, but he failed to appear, citing health issues and overlapping trial schedules.

At the time, the court ruled that his absence lacked justification, imposed a fine of five million won and upheld its decision to summon him as a witness.
