Finland's prime minister has apologized for offensive photos that multiple Finnish lawmakers recently posted on social media.

In a statement issued through Finland's embassies in South Korea, China and Japan on Wednesday, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo expressed sincere apologies for the behavior of the lawmakers, who last month posted photos of themselves mocking Asian people.

The photos were an attempt to mimic Sarah Dzafce, Finland's delegate to last month's Miss Universe pageant, who went viral after sharing a photo of herself pulling the corners of her eyes, captioned "eating with a Chinese."

Since posting the photo, Dzafce has been stripped of her Miss Finland crown.

Orpo said racism and other types of discrimination are not tolerated in Finland.

He said the government takes racism seriously and vowed to eradicate it.
