More than ten million international passengers traveled through Gimhae International Airport for the first time since opening in 1976.

According to the Busan city government and customs authorities, the southeastern airport marked the landmark count as of Friday and held a celebratory event.

The number of international passengers using Gimhae Airport surpassed five million in 2015 and was close to hitting the ten-million mark three years later at nine-point-87 million, but travel fell sharply on the outbreak of COVID-19.

Currently, one-thousand-546 flights operate to and from 42 cities around the world and land and take off from the airport on a weekly basis, up 118 percent from the pre-pandemic level in 2018.

Air Busan launched a route connecting Busan to Bali, Indonesia last October and transports approximately 67-thousand passengers annually.
