The KBS Symphony Orchestra has appointed Chung Myung-whun as its tenth music director.

During his three-year term, which starts in January, Chung will oversee the orchestra’s artistic activities and participate in the establishment of its mid- to long-term strategies.

Chung intends to implement a repertoire strategy next year that brings together symphony and opera, with the opera “Carmen” to be presented alongside Gustav Mahler’s songs and symphonies.
 
The new music director is also expected to take part in international exchanges and in the recruitment of outstanding performers, with a view to enhancing the orchestra’s competitiveness.

The world-renowned conductor, who previously held the music director post in 1998, has continued a partnership with the orchestra through regular concerts and programs.
