The land ministry and the labor ministry have completed a second joint inspection to root out illegal subcontracting at construction sites handling public projects.

Land Minister Kim Yun-duk and Labor Minister Kim Young-hoon conducted the latest inspection Wednesday at the site of a public housing project in Seoul’s Dongjak District, commissioned by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation.

The land minister said no illegal subcontracting should be tolerated, as the practice is directly linked to poor construction, delayed wages and poor workplace safety.

The labor minister said extra efforts must be made to prevent construction accidents and delayed wages in the public sector, which he said must set an example for other employers.

The two ministries earlier inspected a total of one-thousand-814 construction sites between August and September upon orders from President Lee Jae Myung.
