The South Korean military has carried out a biannual military exercise near its easternmost islets of Dokdo.

The Navy said Wednesday that the military staged the East Sea defense drills, also referred to as the Dokdo defense exercises, on Tuesday to carry out its mission to protect South Korea’s territory, people and property. 

The Navy said the drills were similar to previous ones in terms of scale and the level of training involved. 

The latest exercise was the second under the Lee Jae Myung administration, the first having taken place July 17.
