Former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s insurrection trial concerning his martial law action in 2024 is set to end this week.

Sources in the judicial community said Monday that hearings are scheduled Wednesday and Friday for Yoon to give his final testimony and for the special counsel team that handled the case to present its sentencing recommendations.

The crime of leading an insurrection carries the death penalty, life imprisonment or life imprisonment without labor, and the special team could possibly seek the death penalty for Yoon.

The Seoul Central District Court plans to reach its verdict in February.

Meanwhile, an additional warrant was issued on Friday for Yoon’s continued detention on charges of inducing foreign aggression by sending drones to Pyongyang in 2024 in an alleged attempt to justify his martial law action.
