Eight Korean words have been added to the Oxford English Dictionary, including “ramyeon.”

Jieun Kiaer, a key consultant for the dictionary and a professor of Korean language and linguistics at the University of Oxford, said Wednesday that “haenyo,” “sunbae,” “bingsu,” “jjimjilbang,” “ajumma,” “Korean barbecue” and “officetel” were also added to the dictionary.

This is the second consecutive year in which Korean words have been added to the dictionary, with seven new words appearing last year, including “dalgona.”

First published in 1884, the Oxford English Dictionary is currently an online platform that is regularly updated and has a search function so words can be found instantly.
