Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will visit South Korea later this month for summit talks with President Lee Jae Myung.

According to the presidential office on Friday, Meloni is set to make an official visit from January 17 to 19 at the invitation of the president.

Lee and Meloni will meet for a summit on January 19, followed by a luncheon.

The top office said Italy is one of South Korea’s four major trading partners in the European Union and attracts approximately one million South Korean visitors each year.

The office said the leaders are expected to discuss trade and investment, people-to-people exchanges, and cooperation in artificial intelligence, space, the defense industry, semiconductors, education and culture.

It will be the first visit by the leader of a European country since Lee took office in June.
