New Japanese FM Hints at Sanctions on N. Korea

Japan's newly-appointed Foreign Minister says that he may consider imposing economic sanctions on North Korea in a bid to resolve pending bilateral issues, including the abduction of Japanese nationals by the communist state.

Minister Nobutaka Machimura said in first news conference after his appointment Monday that he sees sanctions against the North as "a tool" in negotiations with Pyongyang.
