President Lee Jae Myung has suggested the possibility of drawing up an extra budget with more funds allocated for the arts.

Lee mentioned the issue during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday while being briefed by the minister of culture, sports and tourism.

Saying there may be opportunities to devise an extra budget in the future, the president instructed Minister Chae Hwi-young to review the arts and culture budget.

Lee asked the minister to pay special attention to maintaining a solid foundation for the film and cultural industries, especially considering that Korean culture has taken center stage around the world.

The president said Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni proposed the joint production of a film during their summit the previous day, and he urged the minister to pursue the project, adding that it would need to involve two European Union member states.
