The government has stressed that the nation's economy will witness a five-percent growth this year if global oil prices remain at the current level.

Lee Seung-woo, head of the Economic Policy Bureau at the Finance Ministry, told reporters Thursday that if international oil prices remain at its current level of 37.8 U.S. dollars per barrel, the nation would be able to post a five-percent growth this year as it had originally forecast.

In particular, Lee said the nation would continuously see 21 billion dollars in average monthly exports until the end of this year, citing that despite earlier concerns, last month's exports were estimated to have exceeded the 20 billion dollar mark.

Lee's comments come as various international organizations, including the International Monetary Fund, recently marked down their economic growth outlooks for South Korea.
