The 20th General Conference of the International Council of Museums will kick off in Seoul Saturday, drawing some 2,000 curators and other museum-related officials from around 100 countries from across the globe.

The conference, held every three years, will be held along with the 21st General Assembly of the museum council at the Convention and Exhibition Center in southern Seoul for a six-day run.

Organizers of the event expressed hope Friday that the conference would contribute to promoting South Korea's preservation of its intangible cultural properties. Organizers also vowed to exert their best efforts to breathe new life into outdated local museums and art galleries.

This year's conference marks the first time for the event to be held in Asia.
