Pretrial detention warrants have been requested for 72 of the 73 South Korean suspects extradited from Cambodia over alleged involvement in online scam operations.

The National Office of Investigation under the National Police Agency said Sunday that prosecutors have filed detention warrant requests for 72 of the 73 individuals for whom police sought warrants, while one case was dismissed.

The suspects include a couple accused of defrauding 12 billion won from 104 victims through an online romance scam.

A pretrial detention warrant has already been issued for one suspect who allegedly swindled 19-point-four billion won from 229 victims through July of last year by posing as global financial firms at a Cambodian call center.

Police repatriated the 73 suspects from Cambodia on Friday and applied for pretrial detention warrants for all of them the following day.
