The body of former Prime Minister Lee Hae-chan, who died on Sunday while on an official trip to Vietnam, has been repatriated to South Korea.

The aircraft carrying Lee’s coffin, draped in a large national flag, arrived at Incheon International Airport at around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, about six hours after departing Vietnam.

Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik and Democratic Party leader Jung Chung-rae, along with other party leaders, were present at the airport to receive the late official's remains.

Lee’s body will be transported directly to the funeral hall at Seoul National University Hospital.

A five-day mourning period for Lee will begin on Tuesday.

The Peaceful Unification Advisory Council, of which Lee was executive vice chair, the presidential body and the ruling Democratic Party will jointly oversee the funeral and related proceedings.
