International gold prices surged past five-thousand-100 dollars per ounce just one day after breaking the five-thousand-dollar mark for the first time.

According to Reuters, spot gold prices briefly climbed as high as five-thousand-110 dollars and 50 cents per ounce during the session on Monday, marking a new all-time high.

The surge came just a day after gold first crossed the five-thousand-dollar threshold around 6 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold futures for February delivery settled at five-thousand-82 dollars and 50 cents an ounce on Monday, up two-point-one percent from the previous day.

Continued investor demand for gold as a safe alternative to the U.S. dollar has fueled the ongoing rally.

Gold prices rose 27 percent in 2024 and surged 65 percent in 2025, a rally that has continued into the new year.
