Vietnam says it will ban South Koreans with standard 15-day visas from traveling to Hanoi during the Asia-Europe Meeting next month.

The Foreign Ministry said Thursday it had been informed by the Vietnamese government of the decision, which will affect South Korean tourists and businesspeople as well as other foreign visitors.

The ministry said the move is part of measures to beef up security in Vietnam, the host country for the upcoming biennial meeting of leaders from the two continents.

Currently, foreigners are able to enter Vietnam with short-term visas, which are issued to nearly all people wishing to visit the country.
