South Korea and Canada have agreed to jointly expand automotive manufacturing in Canada.

Canada’s Department of Industry announced on Thursday that Industry Minister Mélanie Joly and South Korean Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan had signed a memorandum of understanding(MOU) on future mobility, which had established the South Korea-Canada Industrial Cooperation Committee.

The department said that the MOU extends the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations, with its focus on economic prosperity and supply chain resilience.

The department said the nations will work together to expand South Korea's automotive industry footprint in Canada and to create domestic electric-vehicle manufacturing opportunities.

Joly said the agreement will grow Canada’s auto sector, create good jobs and reinforce Canada’s position as a global leader in future-ready vehicle manufacturing.
