The Ministry of Health and Welfare said Sunday it will provide a record one million 152-thousand jobs for senior citizens this year, up about five percent, or 54-thousand positions, from a year earlier.

The ministry began recruiting participants aged 65 and older, or 60 and older for certain roles, in December, initially filling 970-thousand positions.

About 880-thousand people have been selected so far during the month‑long recruitment period.

Jobs at community care facilities account for the largest share, totaling 709-thousand positions.

Skill‑based roles that draw on seniors' experience number 197-thousand and saw the biggest increase from last year, reflecting the entry of healthier and better‑educated baby boomers into old age.

The remaining 246-thousand positions, which support seniors in finding employment or starting businesses, will be filled on a rolling basis throughout the year.
