Secretary of the U.S. Navy, Gordon England said Friday Aegis destroyers have been deployed in Korea's East Sea, as the U.S. promised in March, as part of efforts to build a missile defense network to protect against possible attacks from North Korea.
The destroyers equipped with the Aegis combat system are used to accelerate the detection of ballistic missiles.
The U.S. Navy Secretary used the plural form "destroyers," but did not reveal the precise number nor any details of the combat operation.
