No additional bodily remains were recovered in an underwater survey that resumed on Tuesday in a long-abandoned coal mine in Japan, where 183 people, including 136 Koreans, were killed in a flooding accident in 1942.

The Association for Commemorating the Chosei Coal Mine Flooding Disaster said a Japanese diver conducted the underwater operation for some three hours but made no discoveries.

The diver told reporters that they faced equipment problems and low-visibility underwater conditions.

The head of the association said despite the day's setbacks, the survey will resume as scheduled on Friday until the following Wednesday, with divers from Finland, Thailand, Indonesia and Taiwan taking part.

In a separate move, a memorial ceremony for the Korean victims, who were forced to work for Japan during World War Two, will be held at the mine’s memorial plaza on Saturday.
