An operator of an illegal online gambling organization has been repatriated to South Korea after being arrested in Thailand.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said Sunday that the suspect was returned to the country and referred to prosecutors for detention on Friday.

Police also arrested 43 members of the organization and formally detained five of them.

Investigators say the operator and accomplices ran seven illegal online gambling sites between October 2019 and October 2023, recruiting about 15-thousand subscribers to play unauthorized casino-style games.

The organization is believed to have funneled money through roughly 110 bank accounts, accumulating an estimated 590 billion won, or nearly 403 million U.S. dollars.
