Operations continued overnight to extinguish the remnants of a wildfire in Gyeongju.

Forest authorities had initially declared the wildfire fully extinguished at 6 p.m. Sunday, approximately 20 hours after it broke out.

However, the fire reignited around 8:30 p.m. amid winds of five meters per second, prompting authorities to deploy a response system that put out the fire around 11 p.m.

On Monday, authorities plan to mobilize 17 helicopters to fully extinguish remaining embers.

Some 60 residents evacuated to community centers after the fire reignited.

Authorities estimated that the latest wildfire had burned 54 hectares.

A Korea Forest Service spokesperson said no casualties had been reported from the wildfire and that the agency will investigate the cause of the disaster after remaining embers are fully extinguished.
