President Lee Jae Myung has congratulated Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on her party's landslide victory in Sunday’s snap election.

On his social media account Monday, Lee also conveyed his wishes for Japan’s further development under her leadership.

The president recalled his summit with Takaichi last month in Japan’s Nara Prefecture and said the two countries took a powerful step forward together on that occasion, a step toward the next 60 years of bilateral relations.

Lee expressed hope of broader and more in-depth cooperation between the two sides based on the trust and close bonds they have formed and said he looks forward to welcoming Takaichi to South Korea for their next summit.

On Sunday, Takaichi’s Liberal Democratic Party secured a historic two-thirds supermajority in the 465-member House of Representatives.
