U.S. President Donald Trump said that the United States had struck “historic” trade deals in the past few months with South Korea, Japan, India and other nations that would dramatically increase American coal exports.

Trump said Wednesday during a White House event focused on revitalizing the domestic coal industry that the U.S. was now exporting coal worldwide.

It marked the first time Trump had mentioned coal exports in connection with a trade agreement with South Korea.

In a Truth Social post on July 30 of last year, announcing a trade deal with South Korea, Trump said that Seoul had agreed to purchase 100 billion dollars worth of U.S. liquefied natural gas or other energy products.

Trump may have referred to coal as part of the “other energy products” included in that agreement.
