Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will make a state visit to South Korea at the invitation of President Lee Jae Myung.

The South Korean presidential office said in a press release on Thursday that the Brazilian leader is scheduled to arrive on February 22 for a three-day trip.

The two leaders are scheduled to hold a summit on February 23, followed by the signing of memorandums of understanding(MOUs) and a state dinner.

It will be the first state visit by a Brazilian president in 21 years; the last was Lula's in 2005, during his first term.

Lee's office said Brazil is the country's largest trade and investment partner in South America, and the two leaders plan to bolster cooperation in a range of areas to elevate the bilateral relations.

Areas of cooperation include trade, investment, climate, energy, space, defense industry, science and technology, agriculture, education, culture and people-to-people exchange.
